Bright-eyed and fresh-minded, interns are a valuable resource for any Sydney PR agency. So it only makes sense to ask them some difficult industry questions. Here, our current PR Intern, Lunetta Hua, talks the A$AP Mob, capturing viewers’ attention, and being a rebel. Sure, we could’ve asked her about PR internships, but we like to keep our audience guessing!
Communications/Public Relations at UTS.OK, time to put on your Sydney PR agency floppy hat (in burgundy, no less): describe your personal brand in three words.
I am a rebel.
Four words – way to stick it to The Man! What makes you want to buy a product?
Something crazy, funny, and interesting. Nothing is worse than those upbeat voice-overs on ads trying to sell you something. I don’t necessarily think it’s even about the advertising anymore – you just have to start the conversation about whatever it is you are trying to market/sell.
The Optus ad with Mark Wahlberg targeting small business owners. They really capitalised on his brand/persona to their advantage. It was so captivating! What do you reckon is the next big thing in media?
I think the Internet is still at the beginning of its beginning; it’s such an open frontier. We started as active users contributing to the Internet to now running the entire platform. Social media helps, too. People are becoming influencers and creating their own brands as entire businesses. I think the Internet will continue to remove geographical barriers and bring people even closer together. As an extension of that, virtual reality is becoming a really big thing, too.
One key part of PR internships is being socially savvy. So, what’s your favourite digital platform?
Instagram. It’s so much more engaging – visually – and you have the option to be more creative with your posts.
Who do you follow on social?
I follow so many types of accounts, from fashion to food to music to celebrities, etc. The most recent account I followed was @avocadotoast (so basic, I know).
What’s your favourite brand?
Not particularly a brand, but A$AP Rocky is my all-time favourite person to follow online. With his music and take on fashion and style, he definitely creates his own personal brand. Apart from that, it’s probably Adidas.
What are your three most-used apps?
Twitter, Instagram, and Snapchat.
Do you communicate more with words or with GIFs and memes?
Words. But I am guilty of sending through stupid memes on the daily.
What’s your favourite emoji?
The gun emoji and then the thumbs up emoji.
Prayer Hands for Pretty Flacko. That how the kids do it, yeah?
