Monday morning coffee will never be the same.. and we mean this in the best way possible.

Since Mocopan’s coffee demonstration last week, the UMM team have been experiencing our daily cup in a whole new way. There to fill us in on the nitty gritty’s of what makes a good coffee, was special guest Gwylem Davies, the winner of last year’s prestigious World Barista Championship. Media and industry folk gathered around as Davies took us on an entertaining journey into the art of coffee-making.

For those of you who associate passionate, rich cafe culture with grand European nations, Davies had other news – that in fact the Australian coffee industry was one of the strongest and most renowned in the world. Based in the UK himself, he spoke of London cafes which openly trumpet that their barista is Australian to entice customers.

“Australians are held in enormously high esteem around the world” Davies said, “their coffee knowledge is second to none and they know what constitutes a great coffee.

Having been a barista for 13 years and travelled the world in his pursuit of the perfect blend, amazingly, Davies claims that it was in Melbourne that he was first inspired to take his love for coffee to the next level. Throughout the demonstration he paid great tribute to the Australian and New Zealand coffee industry for teaching him much of the art of coffee-making.

During Davies’ time in Sydney he has conducted demonstrations using Mocopan coffee blend Profondo, which complements his signature 50/50 Espresso which won him his 2009 World Coffee Barista title in Atlanta. This espresso blend is created with an infusion of butter, cinnamon, orange peel, muscovado syrup and dark chocolate. YUM.

Till next time folks, we’re taking a coffee break!
